Lauren Startup is an Associate Professional Counselor (GA License# APC004982) for Jordan Stones Counseling, specializing in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. She received her Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Child and Family Development from The University of Georgia. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and the American Association for Christian Counselors. Lauren is under the Supervision of Dr. Rebecca Beaton (#PSY002789) and Mandi Peek, LPC (#LPC004118)
While completing her graduate studies, Lauren worked at an inpatient facility for women who had been rescued from human trafficking. She focused on issues relating to trauma, substance abuse, mood disorders, anxiety, and other duel diagnoses. Lauren’s internship was completed at Winning Strides, Ltd and Parkway Church. During that time, she worked with clinical issues of anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions/adjustments, behavioral issues, women’s issues, and relationship concerns.
Lauren has a love for counseling, and a desire to see people enjoy a full and satisfying life. Based on her years of professional training and her own challenging personal life experiences, she believes healing and restoration are possible and that freedom is within reach. Lauren is invested in healing at the root level through implementing lasting change rather than quick fixes. She views situations and operates through the lens of a Biblical worldview. By doing so, Lauren offers a refreshing perspective to support her clients as they sort through past experiences, influences, and current life situation. This creates a healing environment for the client to distinguish their true self from any baggage or coping mechanisms that leads to destruction. Lauren understands that life can be painful and difficult and finding a counselor that you feel safe and comfortable with is of the utmost importance. Lauren is committed to being that trusted person and would be honored to walk alongside you through the therapeutic journey.
While at the University of Georgia, Lauren was a member of the Varsity Equestrian team. This deepened her passion to work alongside horses in a therapeutic and relational manner. In addition to traditional therapy, Lauren has been trained in various Equine Assisted Psychotherapy modalities. She is currently in the processes of becoming certified through Natural Lifemanship as a Trauma Focused-Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Dually Certified Clinician (TF-EAPD).
In her spare time, Lauren enjoys yoga classes, riding horses, reading, traveling, and working with her church’s youth group. She especially values spending time with her husband and two children.
